What Others Want: A Kenzie Anne Story

Amy wraps up her cam show, all bubbly and flirty with the fans. The second she logs off, though, the mask slips. She looks tired, almost sad, as she wipes her makeup away. Phone rings. Jay. The new guy who's been making her smile like an idiot for a couple weeks now. Amy perks right back up when she hears his voice. He wants her to come over. Says he has a proposal to make official. Nothing else, he just wants her there. Her heart does this stupid flippy thing and she's already pulling on clothes, convinced tonight's the night he asks her to be his girl. At his place he starts with the compliments. Tells her she's gorgeous, swears he's never been with someone like her, talks like he's being open-minded. Amy feels the compliment land, even if it comes with that slightly sour aftertaste. She's about to say thanks when Jay cuts to the chase. He's been thinking a lot about one of their late-night talks, specifically that fantasy where she brings another girl over. Tonight he wants to make it real. He asks for her "blonde friend," acts like it's the most natural thing in the world. Amy's stomach drops. She stares at their joined hands and feels the room shift. Jay doesn't notice. He's already sliding his palms over her waist, already talking about how fun it's gonna be, already pushing his phone into her fingers. Amy dials Lindsey. Voice flat, she invites her over. Because that's what Jay wants, and right now giving him what he wants feels like the path of least resistance.
