Troublemakers

Mr. Russell stands there grinning like he owns the room and tells Lily she’s taller than Emma—makes that height sound like a loaded weapon. He asks if the bitter shit they trade in the hallway stems from pure respect or if it actually turns them both on. Lily fires back and already looks two seconds from ripping her own clothes off just to prove she’s not scared. He keeps going. Next thing you know he drops the bomb: he bets what they’ve really been suppressing all semester is raw sexual tension. The girls yelp and nearly choke on their own tongues, swearing up and down they don’t swing that way. He only smiles wider, planting every word like he’s watching seeds catch fire. They’ll never stop hating each other, he says, until they fuck the hate right out. You can practically hear their pulses thunder. They glare, chests heaving, locked in a stare-off hot enough to scorch the carpet—proud, naked ambition snapping back and forth. The longer they stay silent, the louder that new, filthy dare gets between them.
